The FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said that FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEC) is presently undergoing a careful investigation.
He made this statement on Thursday when he was visited by the management of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) led by the Executive Chairman, Dr Hamid Boboyi.
He noted that it was crucial to check the activities of the management because he was not satisfied with it.
He said, “We are not quite satisfied with what we saw on the board. There is no full briefing on its activities so far, and we cannot allow that.
“We are renovating numerous schools and I wanted them to tell me the schools they have renovated so far.”
He further noted that the delay in the appointment of a substantive director for the board was as a result of the development.
He also mentioned how the FCT administration have awarded contracts to equip schools with infrastructure and renovate some of them.
Following the UBEC Chairman’s request submitted in 2021 for a land, the minister agreed to the land allocation but it came with a condition.
The minister said the board must sign an agreement with FCTA, demonstrating financial capacity to begin the development of the land and when it should be completed.
He stated that the agreement is crucial because most institutions allocated a land for a project ended up keeping them for 15 to 20 years.
