Former Governor Ayodele Fayose responds to the comments of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stating that governors who have complete authority over their states should not feel threatened by any warnings coming from Wike.
This reply came after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike cautioned the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governors warning them not to involve in the policies in Rivers State. He also advised them against supporting Governor Sim Fubara to gain control over the party’s structures in the state.
While speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Fayose replies to the warning of the FCT Minister explaining that a confident governor should not afraid of political challenges and threats.
Fayose stated, “As a sitting Governor, when I was Governor of Ekiti State, I had nothing to hide.”
“If a governor or former governor says he will put fire in my state, it is either I am not strong at home or I have lost control in my state.”
He noted that a governor’s confidence can help in enhancing the management of state affairs and protecting it from interference.
He added, “You can tell my position. The moment you have a grip of your state, you have nothing to fear.”
“But the moment you don’t have a grip of your state, obviously you have a lot in your hand to face.”
At a PDP congress in Port Harcourt, Minister Wike allegedly stated that he would create a conflict if any PDP governor meddled in Rivers State party dynamics.
Fayose’s statement notes the significance of enhancing a strong leadership to neutralize such threats.
