The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu’s counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, has allegedly claimed that the Department of State Services (DSS) has been blocking vistors including his legal team from seeing him.
He stated that the DSS’s actions is violating the orders given by the court which permits routine visitation.
On behalf of Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team, he said, “The DSS blocked the legal team from seeing Mazi Kanu during a routine visit to its headquarters in Abuja, despite a court-ordered visitation schedule.”
He stated that DSS has not permitted anyone to visit Nnamdi Kanu after his last court appearance on September 24, 2024 ever since he asked for a recusal of Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako from presiding over his case.
Later on, the recusal was cancelled by Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and Ejimakor disclosed that he feels the isolation may be as a result of the development.
Ejimakor expressed deep concern over the conduct of DSS while stating that the previous legal requests to permit visitation orders have not been approved by the court, showing that the DSS is operating above the system of the law.
He also underscores the significance of the visiting hours to see Kanu, emphasizing on how his family and legal team checks up on him to ensure his well-being.
“Is Mazi Nnamdi Kanu hale and hearty?”,Ejimakor questioned about the lack of access to Kanu. The DSS is yet to respond to the alleged claims.
