Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has promised to continue with the demolition in order to improve the nation and no protest can hinder it.
Reports had it that last week that the Minister ordered the task force to demolish Ruga settlement along Airport Road, Lugbe. It was a result of this that a protest was held which was led by an activist, Deji Adeyanju.
Activist Deji Adeyanju condemned the act while stating that properties worth millions were burnt with people’s homes.
When the minister went to the razed areas for inspection, he stated that the operation could not be undone and settlement can be considered a security threats especially when it poses as a risk to the rail corridor.
He further noted that the protest can not stop the clearing exercise that have started.
The spokesperson of the victims stated that they have lived there for 35 years and about 10,000 people were affected. He pleaded with the minister to provide another alternative for them.
Later on, he ordered the spokesperson of the victims, Abba Garu, to bring five representatives to FCTA Secretariat for dialogue on what should be done.
