The Actors Guild of Nigeria announced Halima Abubakar’s indefinite suspension via Instagram, stating that a thorough investigation by a designated panel found her guilty of defamation against colleagues and prominent individuals, as well as engaging in extramarital relations.
Halima Abubakar, through her legal representatives, P.D Pius & Associates, has countered with a lawsuit demanding ₦30 billion in damages, expressing shock and denial of the allegations, and criticizing the Guild for suspending her without prior invitation to defend herself.
Halima Abubakar’s lawyers harshly criticized the AGN president’s actions, alleging intentional harm to her reputation through false claims aimed at disgracing and slanderizing he.
Halima Abubakar’s lawyers have given the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) an ultimatum: remove the defamatory post and issue a public apology on the AGN president’s Instagram page within seven days, or face further action. They’re also seeking ₦30 billion in damages for reputational harm caused by the suspension announcement.
Halima Abubakar’s lawyers have issued a seven-day ultimatum, after which they will initiate legal proceedings if the defamatory post is not retracted and a public apology is not issued, along with the ₦30 billion damages payment.
The letter reads;
“Our client has been battling health issues for years, and despite maintaining a professional relationship, you chose this delicate moment during her recovery to spread a negative and false narrative. This has caused her emotional and psychological distress and harmed her reputation among right-thinking members of society.”
The suspension caught fans off guard, especially since Halima Abubakar had recently announced her comeback to Nollywood, sparking excitement among her followers eager to see her return to the screen.
The actress from Kogi State, expressed deep gratitude in an emotional video, revealing her current health state and acknowledging the support of her colleagues who stood by her during her darkest moments.
